Audience profiling

Demographic information:

My religion is N/A.
My location is Nottingham.
I am male.
I am 18.
I am employed (Lush).

Psyhographic (type of person you are, hobbies and interests etc):

I am a student.
I enjoy dong Boxing and Football and also watching them, also enjoy playing Video games and occasionally watching Naruto (Anime).

Socioeconomic (income of the person, class etc):

I would say that I'm working class.

Demographic Information for Charlie and Lola:

  • Not religious.
  • It's animated.
  • its not for a certain gender.
  • its age range is from around 4-8.
Psyhographic info: Its for children aged 4-8 because it seems a bit advanced for little toddlers and babies but seems a bit too babyish for someone around 9 or 10.

Socioeconomic info:

I would say this program is for any class range because i come from a working class background and I used to watch this all the time.

Demographic info on Grand Designs:

  • Not religious.
  • Locations are across the country.
  • its not for a certain gender.
  • its age range is from around 18+
Psyhographic info: its for adults 18+ who probably want to build their own house or are interested in that kind of stuff.

Socioeconomic info:

I would say this program is for upper class people as middle and working class people probably aren't going to be able to afford to build their own house or find that interesting.

Terminology sheet:

Ideas for survey:

identify who is taking the survey
what I'm planning to do and what feed back id like to improve

What questions would i ask:

  • What sex? male, female, other. (tick box)
  • How old they are. (tick box)
  • What kind of class you are. (tick box)
  • Religious? (tick box)
  • Employed? (tick box)
  • What genres of films do you like? (tick box)

I would then tell them what I intend to do and if they have any other ideas about how i can improve my idea or the areas in which i should consider filming in.

If they think my short film would be funny (if not state why? And how i can improve it).

Feedback from my survey:

The type of research that i did was primary research because it was my own survey that i created and the type of information i gathered was Demographic, Psyhographic and Socioeconomic.

My target audience is people at my college aged 16+ to make sure i get proper answers and not childish ones but if we're talking about what audience the film is aimed at it will be aimed at 15 year olds' but i will make it suitable for 12A. The information from this survey is very helpful to me as it helps me understand what vocabulary to use in my short film.

For my first question i asked people how old they were and the results came back as 9/11 people said they were 16-18 while 1 person picked 19-22 and the other ticked 23+. This information is very useful to me because i now know that the majority of people that will be watching my short film are going to be 16-18 years old. My second question was what gender they were and the results came back as 6 of them as male and 5 of them as female while no one ticked other. While this information is helpful it doesn't change my plan for what ill be doing for my short film which is good. For the third question i drifted away from the demographic information and wanted to dip into people socioeconomic statuses so i asked people what kind of class they thought they were in and the results came back as 50% of people said they were working class and 40% said they were middle class but only 10% of people said they were upper class and this is very useful as now i know what kind of class of people i am dealing with in terms of money income and vocabulary. The fourth question was asking people if they were religious and everyone ticked no religion and also for the next question i asked people if they were employed by a manufacturer, distributor, wholesaler or retailer of health and beauty or house hold care products and everyone ticked no apart from one person who skipped the question and both of those questions are useful because i can know what kind of people are employed by who and if they are religious. My next question went onto psyhographic information and was what kinds of genres of films people liked and it came back as positive because comedy came in third with 54.55% of the votes and that's very pleasing because now i can still base my short film off a comedy genre as i was really hoping it didn't come way down in 18th. The genres that beat Comedy were Action in second place, taking 63.64% of the votes and Horror came in first, topping the chart by racking in an impressive 72.73% of the votes. This question was very helpful as it lets me know what genres people prefer to watch and also was relieving because Comedy came in an impressive third place! Just ahead of Animation. The next question was one where people would write a response rather than just ticking a box which helped me to get a more detailed feedback from everyone, the second to last question was basically briefly explaining what the actual story was about and asking them if they had any ideas if i could improve it and the responses weren't very helpful i n ideas of improving my work but was helpful because it was all mainly positive feedback. The last question i asked was if they thought it could be funny and if not then explain why they think that? All the responses were very good apart from a couple and one even said "yes if handled correctly" which is very true as it cant be rude or mean, its a comedy so its meant to be funny.

My results came back as mainly positive with a few people saying to be careful of how i direct the short film because it could come across as offensive and i have taken these comments on board because it will be suitable for 12 year olds' plus. The information i gathered would be presented as charts and graphs for my quantitative information and quotes from my qualitative information.

The survey process as a whole came back as very positive one because it turns out a lot of people liked my idea and enjoy watching comedy as a genre although people also said i have to be careful with how i portray my film.
